Marc Witmer, a classically trained pianist, discovered jazz, fusion, and funk at High School in Houston, Texas. As a teenager, he studied Jazz composition & arranging with the Stan Kenton orchestra; in addition, he was recognized as a player at Piano competitions in Houston and as a composer in statewide competition. His B.A. in Music Composition and Masters in Music Theory were both earned at the University of Texas in Austin where Marc and his family have lived for 15 years.

He has been the music director at CrossPointe, a dynamic church in Austin since 1990, bringing his jazz style to the contemporary worship service.

Christian music continues to be a priority with jazz interpretations dominating, due to the influences of free-form pianists Chick Correa and Keith Jarrett. Now that his son is in college, Marc has recorded two solo piano CDs and is actively pursuing the Film Industry to score music for films. He continues to compose inspirational, jazz, and contemporary Christian music, whether for an audience or for only him and his Lord.

A note of thanks for the creation of this CD…

"But each has his own special gift from God, one of one kind and one of another" (1 Corinthians 7:7). I have come to know that my music is from my Savior, Jesus Christ, and I thank Him, not only for the gift of music, but the greater gift of salvation. I also want to give thanks for the following people…

…for my wife, Carole, who in a similar way to Christ, has blessed me with her grace and forgiveness from the beginning of our marriage until death shall part us. She is the north of my compass, which continually directs me to Christ, and allows me to be the man that He has created me to be…

…for my son, Casey, who has taught me more about the unfailing love of God the Father simply by just "being"…

…for my parents, who have always believed in me and supported my every endeavor. Their unconditional love has blessed both my family and me…

…for my best friend, Tom, who has strengthened me over the years by his living testimony, his abiding love, and his joy in serving Christ with the ministry of music…

…for the people of my church, CrossPointe, who have granted me the space and time to allow my music to be shared in their worship experience…

…for my "Impact" family of friends who have been pivotal in my life as a source of healing and showing me God’s loving grace in a way that has transformed me as a person, husband and father.

A note about the music on this CD…

As the church has evolved these past two millennia, music has always been a part of the worship experience. The music of the secular world eventually seeps through the portals of the church, bringing relevance to a lost generation. Liturgical churches have the beauty and solid tradition of the Prayer book…its timelessness speaks volumes about the eternal aspects of God and His son, Jesus Christ. In contrast, non-liturgical churches are enriched by hymns, and in the absence of liturgy, these churches have developed their own timelessness. In reading the words to these hymns, my faith is strengthened like cool water quenches my thirst.

The first seven songs of this CD are some of my favorite hymns. In two of the hymns (#2 and #7), I wander into songs of my own, returning again to the source hymn. The last three songs are compilations of various original songs, as a prayer offering of thanks.

Playing in my parents’ home brought the comfort of familiar surroundings to the recording experience. There was no rehearsing, no contrived planning...nor were there any "takes" in the production…only the push of the record button as a signal to begin. The lack of polish in the sound and the slightly out of tune piano create an honest representation of my music that reminds me I am incomplete without His grace.
